Meet the singers
Richard Lloyd Owen
Tenor Richard studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music, followed by Post Graduate Studies at the Trinity College of Music, London. In an international opera career spanning 20 years, Richard has sung opera across Europe and beyond. He has sung in various productions whilst a staff singer at the Royal Opera Covent Garden, and as a principal at the Milan Festival of Music with European Chamber Opera. Richard has performed concerts in such venues as Birmingham Symphony Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, The Royal Festival Hall and throughout Sweden, Germany, plus venues in Colorado USA and Auckland New Zealand. |
John Kiefert
Baritone John studied at the Birmingham School of Music. Thereafter he studied with the late Stuart Smith and acknowledges support from the tenor Richard Lloyd-Owen with bel canto technique. Among others he has sung with the conductors Keith Darlington (founder of Mid Wales Opera), William Boughton (founder of English Symphony Orchestra) and; Victor Morris (ENO’s former Head of Music). He has sung in concert, oratorio and opera for various companies, societies, and festivals. |
Samantha Oxborough
Mezzo-Soprano Samantha studied singing at the National Opera Studio, and with Christine Cairns at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She won many awards, and performed in a variety of operas and recitals. Notably, she sang duets in concerts with Sir John Tomlinson (with KVU) and Roderick Williams. A recent appearance for KVU Singers under Frank Smith saw Samantha sing the Brahms Alto Rhapsody, Vivaldi’s Gloria, and Karl Jenkins’ Stabat Mater to much acclaim. |
Tina Fung
Soprano Tina is a Hong Kong born British soprano whom has been performing with Opera Emporio since 2016. Tina has completed her undergraduate studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and performed operatic roles which include Les Rossignol (Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges), A Woman (Vaughan Willaims’s Riders to the Sea), and Trudi (Wolters’s Ava’s Wedding). Tina was a finalist at The Mario Lanza Opera Prize 2016. |
Phil Smith
Musical Director Phil’s four decade career has seen him variously as a countertenor, accompanist, vocal coach, musical director, and composer. He is a founder of, and resident composer/arranger for B’Opera, providing high quality musical experiences for children. He is also cofounder with director/choreographer Robert Bateman, of Obsidian theatrical productions. Phil has been an accompanist with Opera Emporio for a number of years. |
